House & Garden

May 2018

One of our most lavish projects, in upmarket Richmond Hill, was featured on the front cover of the June edition of House and Garden.

The in-depth article on pages 114-119 gives the full story of the dramatic modernist extension at this beautiful Grade II listed building. With the original house dating back to the 1720s, it was, in the words of Alan Higgs Architects, a case of ‘the new kissing the old’ and a development where a ‘little bit of Hollywood fantasy comes to life’.

The construction of this ambitious architectural design was overseen by Franklin Project Management, working in conjunction with DKBS, who provided the interior fit out package. Following the concept of ‘form and function’, in line with modernist principles, the impressive open plan kitchen, dining and sitting area let the architecture do all the talking, by keeping decoration and furnishing to a minimum and utilising some clever use of storage to keep ‘clutter’ out of sight. Added luxury extras included a wine cellar and a palatial entertainment space, complete with a marble floor that magically sinks away at the touch of a button to create a self-filling swimming pool. The sheer opulence of the experience only made more majestic still by the full length, sliding roof light that allows the sunshine to flood the room below – a wonderful example of some complex and creative engineering, expertly accomplished by Uncast Swimming Pools and Antefix.
